Thelma Domenici: Be positive with teacher on discipline
Dear Thelma: I read your last column regarding parent-teacher conferences and hoped you could address a follow-up question. I don't agree with some of the teaching and discipline methods my daughter's teacher uses. For example, during a science project, she gave an entire group an F because of one of the member's misbehavior. The misbehaving student was told several times to raise her hand and be acknowledged before speaking out. She did not change her behavior, and the entire class was told to write 100 times: "Susan will raise her hand before speaking." I want to voice my concerns, because I don't feel this approach adds anything to my daughter's educational experience, and it doesn't seem to faze the offender, but I don't want to cause any problems for my daughter. Carphone Warehouse criticised over data breach
The Information Commissioner's Office investigated the two organisations after complaints about the way they processed and stored personal information. The ICO found security failings that led to customers being able to view other customers' account details online. In addition, the ICO found that the companies had not responded to requests by individuals for information held about them.
It also revealed that Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk had been opening customer accounts in the wrong name and passing inaccurate information on to credit reference agencies and debt collection agencies.
