    Standing ovation Looking like a cheerful, elder statesman, Senator Kennedy entered the Forum with his niece, Caroline Kennedy, to a standing reception from a suave and sophisticated audience. Every seat was taken. Most of the students were crowded into the bleachers on the second floor. This was their senator and they cheered. His answer came in the form of a "thumbs up" and by flashing his engaging smile.

  • ( ) World No. 1 Safuan moves into the last eight

    PETALING JAYA: World number one Safuan Said confirmed his ticket to the singles quarter-finals of the World Bowls Championships in Christchurch yesterday.

    He is unbeaten after eight games and has an unassailable lead in Group A for one of the four berths to the quarter-finals.

    Safuan defeated Aron Sherriff of Australia and Brahim Naim of Brunei yesterday and now leads the group going into the final two games today against Neil Tall of Norfolk Island and Ryan Bester of Canada.

    There was also good news from the men's fours team of Azim Azami Mohd Ariffin, Muhd Azwan Shuhaimi, Mohd Amir Mohd Yusof and Fairul Izwan Muin.

    They are also through to the quarter-finals.

    The women’s pair of Siti Zalina Ahmad and Nor Hashimah Ismail will also advance while the trio of Nor Shafeeqah Yahya, Nur Fidrah Noh and Azlina Arshad are just one win away from claiming a berth.

    Malaysia have won four bronze medals in the championships thus far – from the men’s pairs, men’s triples, women’s singles (Siti Zalina Ahmad) and women’s fours events.
